I've always been a geek at heart.
Having grown up with franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek and engrossed in Marvel, DC and other geek-related material, I try to collect toys and other collectible items whenever I can.
However, It was very hard to look for items locally. The first thing that comes to mind is the website ThinkGeek.
Then one night, I had an idea - why not come up with a Philippine online store that's similar to ThinkGeek? I'm sure that there were a lot of fellow geeks like myself who'd patronize the site.
Without any experience (yet) on online store operations, I just crossed my fingers and dove straight in. "Just follow the dream", I told myself.
And Abubot.ph is the result of that. I chose the name because it captures the Filipino spirit and I think it is perfect for the brand. I'm currently learning the ropes, fixing billing systems, inventory and constantly looking for suppliers both local and international, researching the best shippers and shipping rates, and a whole myriad of things on my to-do list. It goes on and on. But I'm glad to say that I am having fun every step of the way.
Aside from selling my products directly, I want Abubot to help other small business owners and retailers to have a place online to sell their products . I'm not trying to compete with big store names like Lazada or eBay but I want my dream to start small. The business model would be: Abubot will take care of putting up your products, marketing it, facilitating the payment solutions and shipping it to the buyer - all that for a reasonable percentage or markup.
As they say, all BIG THINGS start small and I hope that this endeavor will be just that.
So, if you're a budding entrepreneur who'd like to partner with this site, let me know and shoot me an email at
It's just the start of a long journey ahead and I'm certain that I have lots to learn and experience will be the best teacher.
And maybe we can start that journey together.
After one year, who knows? I will come back to this first blog post and see where we are.
Thanks for reading this post and I hope that you will patronize and support Abubot.ph
All the best,
Mon Macutay - founder, Abubot.ph
